I have a friend who will be going through Amsterdam this summer with weapons. What will happen if he does not have the permit when he lands in Amsterdam?

Dont know and dont want to find out! It takes 5 minutes to fill out the form and fax it in (and no costs) and about two weeks for the permit to be faxed back. Why risk it??

What bwanahile said. It is never worth it to try and fudge your way through any of the customs/gun permits paperwork on any African trip.

Six trips, all with the required permit in the last two years. Not once was it asked for. Yet this year I have mine already, too. Why? Just in case. Getting caught without it will put a real downer on your trip.

Gill the darn thing in, fax it in, get it back, bring it with you.

I went through AMS to Dar last Sept. I had all my documentation and I stayed overnight in AMS. Went to the airport in the morning and checked in while another young man was being escorted to the police station because he did not have any consent forms filed. They siezed his guns and he spent time with the police. I know for a fact he did not get his guns back. But they let him on his next flight to DAR. No way is it worth it!!!!!

I had to present my form when I checked my firearms in with KLM going both directions (departing Toronto and Dar Es Salaam) last year...in fact I even had to give a copy to the KLM attendent in DAR. I don't believe they would have checked-in my rifle case if I couldn't produce the permit.

For the tiny amount of trouble involved, why bother risking it?

Cheers,
Canuck
