And they still are the world’s second most profitable airline. https://www.consultancy.uk/new...irlines-of-the-globe Mike

I was on a Delta Flight years ago where I was one of 4 people on a flight from Salt Lake City to St Louis. I didn't get offered first class though. Now I'm pissed!

I priced some tickets a couple weeks ago. There is a reason they can’t fill seats. They were substantially more expensive. NRA Patron member

Hell, their business class seats to Joburg are about $4000 more than anyone else- with poorer service! Vote Trump- Putin’s best friend… To quote a former AND CURRENT Trumpiteer - DUMP TRUMP

Delta load factor https://www.statista.com/stati...-of-delta-air-lines/ Emirates load factor https://www.statista.com/stati...r-emirates-airlines/ Delta just runs a much more profitable airline. These long haul flights by emirates to hub and spoke destinations via Dubai are not as profitable as direct international thin routes (smaller planes) and scale us domestic operations. Mike

At the prices they charge, they should continue to do well- as long as there are people dumb enough to pay those outrageous prices. Vote Trump- Putin’s best friend… To quote a former AND CURRENT Trumpiteer - DUMP TRUMP

Not comparing apples with apples here I think! How many of Delta’s flight are domestic?

http://markets.businessinsider...e-in-traffic-6255746 Delta international load factor is 85 percent. Flying direct routes from us to Europe and Asia is very profitable. There is a Home bias - for all the bitching most Americans would prefer flying us airlines. Same can be said for most developed nationalities. I think why you seeing us airlines switch to thin routes with direct flights instead of going thru a hub. All these super low occupancy flights are normally passengers tagging along on a plane being repositioned. Mike

Had a flight on thanksgiving night from Orlando to San Francisco once that was darn near empty. There was probably 15 people on the flight and it was a huge Airbus with a 3-3-3 type seating setup. I assume they needed it in SFO for long haul flight the next day. One person had paid for first class and was the only one up there. Because of that, they said we can sit anywhere on the plane EXCEPT first class. They gave us the food from first class, but couldn't have the seats - still stuck in coach. ____________________________ If you died tomorrow, what would you have done today ... 2018 Zimbabwe - Tuskless w/ Nengasha Safaris 2011 Mozambique - Buffalo w/ Mashambanzou Safaris

I try to avoid Delta after an bad experience in Atlanta. The racisim of Delta's staff there cannot be understated. In 20 years of traveling to Joberg, I can never recall when American served it from anywhere in the US or elsewhere. Several of their partners do and I have used them. Vote Trump- Putin’s best friend… To quote a former AND CURRENT Trumpiteer - DUMP TRUMP

I remember flying SAA from Miami to Cape Town back in 1994. 12 1/2 hours from Miami. That's when SAA was a great company with great service. That flight sure beats the routes SAA and Delta fly today. Wish they would reconsider opening that route again.

I flew the same route many times from 93 onward on their 747 from Miami to JNB. Amazing service and made the hours tolerable. SSA was the preeminent international carrier then. My how times have changed... ___________________ Just Remember, We ALL Told You So.

I have theory, that since airlines started all these so called "alliances" they have lost their individual competitiveness. They have gravitated to the lowest denominator. Lufthansa was one of the best European airlines, last time I travelled on them it was an utter disaster. We had to be rebooked because their plane had a technical problems, and there was no replacement. You should have seen the look on the face of the man behind the counter when I told him "I have no wish to fly on ANY Star Alliance member. Please book me on Emirates!"
