Considering a Tanzania sightseeing tour in 2019. After hunting in Zimbabwe & Zambia several times the wife & I are concerned that it could end up being like our Chobe tour after one of our hunts, ie. multiple Land Cruisers chasing to see lions around a kill or leopards in a tree. The safari experience was more personal and less crowded, and you never knew what you’d see around the next corner. Any observations from someone who did the “tourist” thing?

txsouthpaw, Tanzania has some of the very best parks in Africa and the photo touring industry is well established. The trick is to go when it is not crowded. Do not go in June-mid August as everybody and his brother is there with family in tow. Feature bumper to bumper Land Cruisers around a lion pride or whatever is a must see. Photo tours are part of what I do so if you'd like some further info give me a call or send an e-mail. Mark MARK H. txsouthpaw, I met my husband after he did Kilimanjaro during September 2013. We did the Ngorongoro Crater and Serengeti. A lion kill looked like a traffic accident on the Chicago Expressway. Vehicles everywhere, animals with absolutely no fear of the tourists. Lions sleeping a few yards off the road. Elephants feeding mere feet away. The other tourists we were with had never been to Africa before this trip. They thought all African game just stood there and could not believe someone could shoot them. I enjoyed being in hunting concessions far more than these photo areas where the animals have lost all fear. They just seem too domesticated. I just did the Serengeti and ngorongoro, describing them as a traffic jam during rush hour is very appropriate. Glad I did it, but I would never, ever, do it again. Totally commercial and CROWDED! .

Another excellent option, if you want small and personalized, is to contact Gary Kramer. His website is www.garykramer.net. Gary is one of the most accomplished wildlife photographers in the world, his work has been featured in many magazines we all enjoy. He leads small groups and provides photography advice and help to all. Gary is a great guy, I’ve been acquainted with him for nearly 30 years and wouldn’t hesitate to do a trip with him if that’s what I was looking for. I think his main destinations in Africa are northern Tanzania and Botswana.

txsouthpaw - I do photographic safaris in Tanzania with Chemchem Safaris in Burunge. This is an old hunting area, private concession, bordering the Tarangire NP where we only do photo safaris. Amazing area with lots of game, no other people or tourists and 5 star camp. I do the walking safaris there and they are absolutely fantastic. Walking with big elephants and tracking lions. Photographic safaris done the right way. From Chemchem it's also easy to access other areas of interest. Private guide and private vehicle and absolutely no crowds. Feel free to get in touch and check out the website. All the best.
