My wife was thinking she wanted to stay over in Frankfurt for a couple days, just to look around on our way back from Namibia next July. It would be a cool opportunity for our kids and our selves to see something new. Have any of you done this? How much of a hassle is it with firearms? Is there any thing in Frankfurt that you thought was worth seeing? My only stops there where in the back of a 141, going to the Middle East. We never left the Air Force Base. Idle Marines in groups are a walking hazard, even on the Air Force base Any suggestions would be appreciated. Thanks Will

Frankfurt is a bustling, commercial city with perhaps not as much of the Old World charm as some European cities. However, just a short train ride from Frankfurt are some places like Heidelburg (sp?) and other smaller, quainter places to visit. I think such a stopover would be well worthwhile. Managing firearms is another matter. When checked straight through, the airlines take care of them during the half-day layover typical when traveling from the U.S. If doing a longer layover, you would have to make arragements for your firearms, and I'm not quite sure how that's done. I would suggest consulting Kathi, a great travel agent who posts here on AR, or another travel agent familiar with the issues. Were I to layover in Germany in the city of my choice, I think I would prefer Munich. An airline called LTU flies directly to Windhoek from there, but I've been told that LTU will not transport firearms (this may or may not be correct). I'm not sure how other African connections are out of Munich, but the Bavarian countryside and villages sound like great places to spend a few days.
