Hello everybody, please excuse my english. Its only my third languag. After about 10 trips with Swiss from Zurich to Joburg and further with SAA to Harare I am planing to take the route from Zurich to Dubai and then on to Harare with Emirates next year in March. On the Emirates website I have found information and the form how to inform Emirates that I want to take a rifle and ammo with me. However, on their german website they state that you also have to get permission form airport police at Dubai airport and the civil aviation authorities. Unfortunately, they don't have a link or e-mail address how to contact these authorities. Does anybody have the respective link or e-mail address? Furthermore, its stated that the rifle and ammo have to be packed separately (for sure) and separate from clothing. I normally had my rifle in a gun case and the ammo in a lockable box inside my "normal" suitcase. Does anybody know if this is also ok with Emirates? Kind regards for your help and please excuse my bad english. Florian

Traveled through Dubai on Emirates this past summer. Ammo was in a locked box in my regular luggage. No problem. Luggage was checked through to my destination so I never claimed any of it in Dubai.

Two years ago I had to do this: 30 days prior to my flight I had to register with Emirates I was flying with guns and I received a permit to do so. the permits were for my trip to the hunt and also on my return home. The travel agent, Fred at Travel with Guns, did the legwork for me. All went smooth and I didn't see my guns in Dubai when I trusted. The airline did everything. I did not have to contact the police at the airport. I have transited twice through Dubai with firearms on Emirates. Their system is very efficient and provided you obtain the prior permission you should have no stress at all. Here is a link to the permit application to be sent to Emirates ( you may already have found this ). Have a look and prepare the documents to be sent with this application. https://www.emirates.com/ae/en...spx?sval=Fire%20Arms If you apply within 30 days of travel you should receive the permit within about 2 weeks of your travel date. The permit covers transit through Dubai. Emirates will advise Dubai Police and the Airport Authority. You don't have to do this separately. If you are flying to your destination on Emirates then Dubai Police will manage transfer of your firearm from Dubai to your connecting Emirates flight, or even to another connecting airline I believe. You don't claim your firearm in Dubai and should next see it on arrival at your destination. My usual practise with luggage is to have ammo in a locked box inside my check in bag, with my clothing. My rifle bolt is in soft padding, also inside my check in bag. The rifle in it's own case. I am usually asked about this at check in and this has been perfectly OK with Emirates. The only deviation was recently checking in with Emirates at Istanbul. For some reason there they made me take the bolt from my check in bag and put it with the rifle inside the rifle case...!!! This was done under Police supervision. While slightly time consuming it was handled very politely by all parties and everything went well. Because I traveled with a firearm another thing I encountered with Emirates was when boarding the flight I was asked to stand aside at the gate ( my name popped up in their system ) while a supervisor double checked my details. It's just a formality really that takes about a minute and not a cause for concern if it happens. I am quite comfortable about taking a firearm on Emirates and will do so again soon. Good luck on your hunt. Hunting.... it's not everything, it's the only thing.

Emirates is very easy and trustworthy with your guns. Send in the required paperwork when you’re supposed to and follow the rules. You’ll have no problems at all.

Sir, while I understand that CH is not in the EU, I don't know of the EU ban on firearms also applies to CH as well to Zimbabwe travel. If it does not I don't see any problems just fill out the form on Emirates. If it does, you may have to travel to JNB and then SSA to Zimbabwe
