Has anyone reserched the best route to Windhok if you are useing Delta Sky miles? I know you can go to Johannesburg, S.A. and then use another carrier but is there a shorter better way? Any info appreciated.

Haven't seen you on the web lately. I went to Namibia last year and had a great time.

I used SkyMiles for 2 tickets all the way from Anchorage, Alaska to Windhoek. The route was Anchorage-Salt Lake City-Atlanta-JFK-Joberg-Windhoek. We overnighted in NY and Joberg, with everything from JFK on being on SAA. The return route skipped JFK with the only overnight being in Joberg.

if your coming from Mo, you may not be able to get a direct flight with Delta. Most likely, you'll have to buy intra-continent ticket from Joburg to Windhoek.
In a quick Delta search, i couldn't really find anything available from St. Louis, MO.
Best thing to do is just start playing with dates or call Kathi Klimes (708-425-3552) or Gracy Travel (800-299-8558) to see if they can come up with something.

The best route to Windhoek is to connect with Air Namibia in Frankfurt. While this sounds longer than going through JNB, it is not, because the connecting flight from JNB to WDH is usually not available until the next morning so you have to overnight in Jburg (expensive, and not good!)
Fly Delta from the U.S. to Frankfurt and use your skymiles for that portion of the route. Going through Germany instead of S.Africa also saves you a lot of hassle with your firearms.

you can't use Delta skymiles all the way as Delta is not an SAA partner. the cheapest alternative is Delta to JNB via ATL, then buy a separate SAA ticket from JNB TO Windhoek, realizing that you will probably have to overnight in JNB. I am using the same strategy to fly free to JNB, then on to Moz.

I'm with stonecreek....ATL-FRA on Delta, then Air Namibia FRA-WDH...Air Namibia isn't great, just ok, but it is an overnight flight so you can get a nap
