I have had both, and thank God I've never had to use them. I have heard though that GR performs better when needed. Check out this post to see what I mean.

I did a lot of research before choosing and picked GR. They will pick you up in the field and bring you back to the US. Plus they are affiliated with Johns Hopkins and have access to the best in transit assistance and consulting if needed.

I have not required rescue, but when I researched it in 2009, GR will pick you up where ever you are.(Bush, mountain etc). With Medjet, you will have to make it to an Airfield. GR will be more expensive, but worth it if need arises.

This: http://www.shakariconnection.c...ravel-insurance.html might be of interest/use.

I'd recommend Global Rescue as the better though more expensive option.

This is one of the reasons that you always end up paying for MARS evacuation services; they can get you anywhere in-country and transfer to hospital in the city.

All good advice. I can assure you that you do not need the SAS service which Global Rescue offers in Germany, so maybe you can save some money.

I have both. I never had to utilize Medjet. I did use GR once while in Argentina. I was VERY impressed.

The difference to me is that GR will get you where you are at. MJ will retrieve you from the closest international airport.

I would advise going with GR.

No matter which one you choose, you still need to consider the medical coverage provided by any of several travel accident policies.

See comparisons at Insuremytrip.com

This coverage can seem expensive IF you insure the ENTIRE cost of the trip, but not so bad if you do not insure the trip costs [which may be recoverable or returnable anyway] and just get the "fringe coverages" including the Travel Medical.

Even with Med Jet Evac coverage, if you are bleeding, or have broken bones, or are too sick to fly, you MAY want local medical treatment, and they are going to require payment. [your US insurers will not likely extend coverage out of the USA]
