Leaving tomorrow from Houston for Jo'burg. This trip is the most complicated to get arranged of any of our other 15 or so trips to Africa. Complications mostly brought to us by the pandemic. Thanks a lot, China. However, it is Africa we're going to, and we're going there to hunt. So, it's worth the trouble. New this trip: My wife and I got our PCR tests done yesterday at a lab in San Antonio and had the results in about an hour. Costs more, of course, but at least we're able to meet the 72 hour requirement without further stress. Have the required Traveler's questionnaire ready - both the one going there and the one for coming home. Will need another PCR Covid test to come home, and we think we have that arranged through our PH. We chartered a flight to get out to the bush from Jo'burg. Then two days ago Emirates moved our arrival time back by 6 hours. Can't land on the dirt strip in the night. So - spend a night in Jo'burg and fly out the next morning. Also, we'll now have 14 hours in Dubai. But the airline has a hotel room for us there. Good for Emirates for that accommodation. Too bad we miss a day of hunting. Really glad that Emirates is still operating and pretty much same as before. Pretty much, except that at present they don't allow passengers from South Africa into Dubai. Our return trip is in a few weeks, and if they keep extending that ban, we will have to find another ride home. The getting there and the coming back are affected by the virus and its spin off complications. But we will be fine, so long as we still get the chance to go hunting in Africa. My advice from all of this - use a great travel agent !! We have Kathi Klimes from Wild Travel watching out for us. Wouldn't have it any other way.

I agree, totally worth the hassle!! I was in Zim in June, going back in Aug. The prep was more of a pain than usual (mostly due to testing), but honestly; the travel was easier this year. Flights were not full, daughter and I each had our own row on a couple fights, going into HRE we were welcomed with open arms. All the "firearms runaround" was as easy as I've ever had on safari. 2nd agreement: For Aug, I'm using Kathi for the first time & she is already stacking up to be the best travel agent I've ever used.

Kathi did the flight arrangements for our May 2021 trip. Emirites screwed us with the no return thing from Joberg, so Kathi smoothly switched us to Qatar and it all went great after that. Doubt Emirates will ever get any of my business should I ever go back to Africa due to their policies
