What is the process to change a passenger on a pre purchased ticket. My son informed me today of a business emergency that will not allow him to go on our safari. I'm still going and want to substitute a friend on the plane ticket. Shawn at Gracy will give me an answer on Monday but I'm sitting here trying to make a plan on Saturday. Flights are Delta San Diego to Atlanta, Atlanta to Joburg, Joburg to Bulawayo. Anyone have information on this substitution process. We leave on May 29. Thanks LB | ||

Depends on your fare code. Some codes you are SOL and others not. | |||

Very true. Normal procedure - if your code allows - is to cancel that one and issue a new one in the new name. We do it all the time, but with tickets that can be changed. | |||

I would call Delta direct. They will be able to tell you if your sons ticket can be used for another person. I would still have Gracy travel do the exchange. At least now you will know your options. | |||

They let me do it not once but twice in 2013...same ticket..once when my son bailed on me and then when my wife did so the day before I left. Would not refund the ticket but let me have credit for future flights....it worked out ok.....but....wish one of them had gone. | |||

Kudos to Shawn at Gracy Travel. She worked with my tickets and was able to place my friend in my son's seats. Gracy has always served me well on prior hunting trips. This was over the top and deserves mentioning. We are off to Zim on Monday hunting with my friend Andy Hunter in Bubye. | |||

In this day of mass computer access the travel agent's role is greatly diminished. However, as your experience proves, they can be of great help when contingencies arise. On your own, the airline would have simply told you that you were shit-out-of-luck and you can either eat the ticket or pony up a similar amount for another new ticket. But since the airlines depend on keeping good relations with travel agents (who can steer their customers elsewhere), the airline was much more willing to work with your agent, which benefited you. Your agent deserves a hearty cheer for her efforts. | |||
