From a Hunting perspective...Pakistan is right up near the top.
Interestingly...they didn't include places like Libya, Iran, Syria,Afghanistan, etc???
Were these literally "too dangerous" to make the list because you can't compare professionals with amateurs?

I have been to half of those countries. I disagree. Depends on where you go in the country and who you are with.

Pakistan is safe - if you are with someone like Danish who posts here. If you go alone as a tourist to the northern areas, you are asking for a problem.

CAR is the worst in my opinion.

Cameroon is not much better.

Egypt is fine. I lived there and there were issues but it was between Egyptians and no expats.

Do your homework on where you go. Most places are fine.

I think the article pretty much actually does a good job of outlining that certain areas and pockets of these countries make them unsafe vs safe.
Essentially in line with your accurate comments. You bring another good point on the CAR etc...
There are many SERIOUSLY dangerous places they left off
Do you believe there was some political bias i.e. Afraid to call out extremist Muslim strongholds? Nigeria makes the list because of Bokoharam but not Libya etc (Libya is maybe the most dangerous place on Earth for a Westerner)

When considering US based operations of guides/outfitters, check and see if they are NRA members. If not, why support someone who doesn't support us? Consider spending your money elsewhere.

NEVER, EVER book a hunt with BLAIR WORLDWIDE HUNTING or JEFF BLAIR.

I have come to understand that in hunting, the goal is not the goal but the process.

No idea how they came up with the list.

There are a lot of countries on that list that I would go to before I would go to before I would go to Syria, Somalia or Afghanistan none of which are on the list.

No clue why Colombia is even on that list let alone #1 compared to some of the other contries on there. I've been to Cali, Cartegena and BOG and a couple other areas there and always felt safe. It has a stable government and growing economy. Just stay out of the FARC areas and Darien Gap.

That list is total BS.

No South Sudan on the List!

My brother just started an assignment with MSF (Doctors without borders) last week. Already he has operated on 3 people with gunshot injuries. How many hundreds more were shot in that week?

South Sudan is one of the most dangerous places on earth - period. All the expats & government staff move around in convoys with military escort. Even Juba is not totally safe unless you have armed protection.

Kenya is unsafe in the North & east - along Somalia border & the provinces there - no different to 150 years ago!

How about Mexico? OK for hunters? Not so good for tourists?

I think CAR should at least be on the list- anytime you are escorted from the airport to the Hotel by two armored vehicles with machine guns on top it must mean something...

South Sudan has some of the best wildlife in the world. On of the biggest migration in the world. Compares to the migration of Masai Mara/serengeti If they could get their shit together it could be a fantastic countro for safaris, both hunting and photo. But I will not happen anytime soon.

As for Kenya. If you stay away from teh worst places in Nairobi and close to the somali border it`s not much worse than other places. Terrorism is all over now. Might as well happen in London, Paris, Nairobi or Las Vegas.

As for Lebanon Went there in 2012 I think. Fantastic place. WOuld ove to go there again Smiler Never felt unsafe, even when we walked into a checkpoint with a guy on the tanks pointing his gun at us. There was a lot of military presence there. Everywhere.

I have been to many of those countries and would return tomorrow. The criteria used to create such a list will always be subjective to a degree.

I get a kick out of Robert Young Pelton's Dangerous Places. It's humourous and has some good int. Wish it came out more often.

List makes no sense at all. Thailand? Phillipines? Stable Asian tourist destinations.

I worked in 6 countries including warzones, some countries are more dangerous than others, but I class potential danger by areas, which a lot of countries may have to a degree.

1. Open warzones, obviously
2. Otherwise destabilized areas( economic collapse, famine, disaster, epidemic etc)
3. Remote Tribal Regions
4. Old 'townships' and other established large slums.
5. 'Bad suburbs' Aka gang areas, ethnically dominated suburbs, edgy bizarres, especially at night.

I've been to a few of those dangerous countries and I don't disagree.

However, using common sense and staying away from the trouble spots go a long way in staying safe.

There are parts of Chicago and Detroit that I would rank as some of the most dangerous areas on the planet. Just look at the weekly number of shootings.

I was in Detroit years ago, staying at a hotel in the city.

I went for a walk in the evening, and a police car stop by and asked where I was going.

I told him I was just out for a walk.

He advised me to go back to my hotel, and go for a walk in the morning.

Why would anyone stay, or go, after dark, in Chicago or Detroit? That is what suburbs are for.

The ONLY reason to go into Chicago of which I am aware is to get a Chicago style "Italian beef" sandwich.

Or at least that Is the reason I went!

And THE reason I'll go back!
