Can one put a knife in with their ammo in the ammo box? Or is it just ammo only?

I did on both my trips, along with everything from bug repellent to gun cleaning stuff. I had no problems.

I use a metal locking box, and it is quite a bit larger that 3 or 4 boxes of cartridges. Have always put extra knives, glasses, breakables, padded with bandanas, etc.

Once they (SAA) weighed the loaded box itself, and said it was over 5 kg. I opened it and showed them the extra stuff and they just said "Thank you, no problem at all then", and had me close it and be on my way.

rnovi,

No problem adding other things to your ammo box. As others have said its a great way to keep breakables safe during the trip.

I have always put my ammo in a Pelican case inside my Tufpak with my guns, never had any problems, and I usually have ammo in my other checked bag as well, in a Pelican case with TSA locks, so I do not put any other items in the ammo box. I put any items of value, that I cannot carry in my carry on, in the case with my guns as I am the only one that has the key to the gun case.
