Delta is not currently flying the ATL - JNB route but is selling seats for this summer. Asking the experts if these flights will be operating this summer? Don't want to book if they won't be flying. I appreciate your opinions.

I might be wrong, but I believe that flight goes thru Capetown...not direct.

Delta has cancelled those routes due to the restriction on non-US citizens allowed entry to the US. It made the route non-economical for them.

TBD on when they plan to open them back up from what I hear.

The word I got from Gracy was that delta will resume flights in July.

It will be direct Atlanta to joberg, the return will be joberg, Cape town then Atlanta....

JTEX, the best I can tell, you are 100% correct. Delta website will sell me the seats for the dates I want in July. My concern is if they will actually be operating the route? I don't want vouchers in the future, what I want is to get to Africa for safari! Do you think this is an issue to be concerned about prior to ticket purchase?

There is nothing certain in air travel right now.

But June looks likely to stay open.

At least I am hoping it will.

Just had the same issue. Had tickets for last June , re-scheduled twice now.
Now that Delta cancelled the flights till July, i bought tickets on Emirates.
I am leaving Mar 31. Emirates was less money and i don't need to spend another night in J-Berg.
Delta sent a full refund in a week.

This is my problem as well. Have a credit with Delta as last year our flights were cancelled and told our only option was a credit So we would like to fly Delta, but will we get rescheduled or cancelled last minute?
Supposed to arrive in RSA July 4.

We had a booking last year, with Emirates, paid for.

We did not go.

They offered us full refund, or credit, to any destination they fly.

And as we travel quite a lot before this, we left the money with them.

Booked again last week for September.

I think it certainly could be an issue. The situation is still pretty fluid.

That said I'm booked on Qatar for March.......

Last I heard from TWG Delta was supposed to start the flights back on June 1. I just looked and you can buy those tickets. That was always the start of high season. If you look in May, they want to route through Amsterdam.
All that being said- things can change day by day. I have flights booked June 12-July 1 - hope the are flying then.

With the current uncertainty, use a travel agent. It doesn't cost you anything more, and they will take a lot pressure off you, dealing with any change in flights etc.

Delta may fly, then again, they may not. Everyone should realize that Delta's philosophy is that they are doing YOU a favor by letting you on their plane. If they really feel frisky, they might even load your luggage on the plane. I'll never fly Delta again, anywhere, anytime.

We are booked on United to Joberg in August, better class seats and less money. I'm not a big fan of United but I'll roll the dice on this trip. No firearms on this trip.

I’m booked on Delta for July to hunt with Charl & Erika at Infinito. The return flight stops briefly in Capetown and then nonstop to ATL. Just had shoulder surgery so between that and the airlines, I hope all comes off without incident! Thanks for your inputs.
