Anyone had experience with Lufthansa regarding carrying your hunting rifles? There are good connections via Frankfurt for the non-African destination I have in mind.

You will have to get paperwork to land in Frankfurt most likely.

Is that speculation or something you know from experience? I needed nothing when flying through FRA (on another airline), but that was several years ago.

I'm primarily interested if Lufthansa has any funky proprietary rules regarding firearms like some airlines (extra fees, pre-registration, etc.)

It is what Gracy travel said I was required to do and did transiting to Bulgaria this weekend. I have also had to have it on two trips to Romania in the past.

On all these occasions I was required to pick up luggage and re check, possible if you are checked through to somewhere it may be different.

Also, I was informed that a fee at airport (not sure which one) there would be a fee of $230- $285.

I did not go as I injured my back severely a few days before departure, so this is all I know.

Saeed's link will give you the airlines information. I usually print it out just in case I run into a Karen or bimbo Smiler

.

Travel LH frequently in Europe and Europe to Africa with rifles. Expensive as they charge per leg of travel for weapons handling but otherwise pretty straight forward.

If same airline all the way and weapons checked thru to final destination you have nothing to do in FFM. If switching airlines and not checked all way then you will have to recheck with the second airline then you will need paperwork.

I have been borrowing guns as it comes cheaper and travel is hassle free
Any hunter worth the salt can shoot just about any gun handed to him, besides most outfits have great gun to hunt with.
Bottom line, don’t get hung up on hunting with your gun only as you just add to pain in the ass travel.
Oh and carryon only travel, oh boy that is something all of us hunters ought to adopt

I had clients had to apply for a transit permit in Frankfurt regardless. They had to send all their paperwork and the paperwork of the destination. They were there only on transit and didn't have to recheckin.

However that does only applies for people oput side of Europe, who don't hold a european wapeans passport.
