Guests ... Was just reading the SCI in the crosshairs e-newletter. Seems that there is some ISSUE with airlines now NOT allowing ammo in baggage ... I have unfortunately deleted my e-letter, if any other person has a copy to the link maybe post it as it might have implications Cheers, Peter

The European Union Commission recently released a new air-travel security regulation which, in part, prohibits the carriage of ammunition in checked baggage. This new regulation could make it very difficult for hunters to leave Europe with ammunition and might even cause problems for travelers transiting through Europe with ammunition, on their way to non-European destinations. Individual EU countries have the ability to opt out of the regulation, and SCI is working to encourage as many countries as possible to do so in their national air safety rules. SCI is also working to clarify whether the regulation will affect hunters who must fly through Europe, such as those who simply change planes in a European airport. Keep watching Crosshairs for further developments on this issue, including details on any country that confirms that it plans to exempt itself from this regulation. This regulation goes into effect on April 29, so anyone travelling with ammunition through Europe after that date needs to contact the airline to make sure that there will not be any issues http://bit.ly/ajdSlf.

Germany (lufthansa) has already got an exemption and so does SAS. I cannot see the Italians and French putting up with this 'sliped in' legislation which never went before parliment and was never voted on - especially as it was drawn up by a German commission in such a way as to ensure Germany was exempt and only the rest of the EU affected...

A good friend just returned to the US from SA last week and had his ammo in a specially made Americase lockable ammo box. Because TSA had cut his lock off of the suitcase in route he no longer had a lock so they made him check the small lockable ammo case as a seperate item saying it could not fly in an unlocked bag. Will the lunacy ever end ?

Relax. This restriction has been lifted. BUT each airline operates its own policy - some airlines happy with ammo. in metal box inside your hard checked-in suitcase for the aircraft hold.....others want ammo. to be in airline approved secure locked container SEPERATE from your hold suitcase (but it still goes into the hold) COUNTRYSPORTS. madabula, would you please explain how the TSA could cut off the locks "enroute"? On an inbound flight they could only do this in the USA after the plane arrived. But, you have to go through customs anyway, where you could be required to open all luggage! I don't understand this, especially as I thought they were required to try to contact you first. Peter.
