Note to moderator: not sure where to post this so I put it here. If not appropriate, please move. Thanks!

I have been fortunate enough to make three trips to Zim since 2011. Want to shoot some plains game not available there and, more importantly, take my long-suffering wife to experience Africa. Looking at some places in SA for 2018. Thought I might combine a trip to Krueger on the way out. Anyone done this? How many days should I allow for Krueger? Where should I consider staying (don't mind going upscale-wife has tolerated the last three trips without a whimper)? Any recommendations on who to use for tours, etc.? TIA.

We do this all the time, our main camp in Limpopo is just a couple hours drive from Kruger. Our most popular Kruger trip is a guided 3 day tour through the park. Shoot me a PM with what plains game you are interested in and I can get a quote out to you.

What you are talking about is exactly what I am doing at the moment. We started with 4 days at Kruger, then 2 days wingshooting a few hours drive from Kruger, then 3 days in Cape Town, now finishing 3 days of wingshooting near Cape Agullas. When we leave here tomorrow we go to Hermanus for whale watching and white shark cage diving. My wife has loved it all. Walter Enslin of Kwan Safaris arranged it all and has accompanied us throughout. It has been a wonderful trip and Walter can arrange plains game shooting instead of wingshooting with no proble.

drj , My camp is within 35 minutes of Kruger. Almost every hunt we do includes 1 to 5 days in Kruger for relaxation and game viewing. We have a number of hunting concessions from Elephant and Buffalo to plainsgame in the immediate area. Been doing it for 25 years.
You're welcome to send me an e mail. I will gladly work something out for you and supply you with references.

Hunting regards ,

I have stayed at this hotel right outside of Kruger Gate. My wife liked it, I sure yours would too.

However, if I went back here is where I would stay.

Did a similar trip in 2013. 7 days eastern Cape and 4 days in Kruger. Stayed at Jock Safari Lodge.

I know Kruger is huge, but is four days enough (at least for a first trip)?

My wife and I did this sort of thing in 2003. We did three days in Kruger and stayed at the rest camps inside the park. Three days was enough to whet my appetite for it. We had to go back. Take at least one extra SD card for your camera. Just the bird life alone is spectacular, but the liklihood of seeing at least three or four of the big five is pretty good.
As to whether or not to book it with a PH/hunting operation, we did that and it worked out fine. Actually it is a plus to have someone with you that knows the native wildlife and may also know where to look.
There are a couple of other game parks fairly close, such as Hluluwe/Imfolozi. They are also worth a day trip or two.

Most of my money I spent on hunting and fishing. The rest I just wasted

drj , one will never have enough time. Most people just don't have the time available. The Reserve is so diverse and changes so much from North to South that to fully appreciate it one really has to start North and slowly work your way South , or vice versa . If you have the time , a full week or longer would be better. As a child we would spend 3 weeks at a time in Kruger. Simply an amazing place.
