This past March, I hunted at Gras Ranch for almost 2 weeks. I had such a great time (as you all predicted) that I want to return next March.

My wife wants to join me on my next trip. We want to tour the country for a few weeks then return to Gras for my eland and waterbuck.

We can be there touring for up to 4 weeks before heading to Gras for my hunt. Anyone have any suggestions, recommendations, or experiences they would like to share with us to help us plan our trip? I need to be back home in Canada by the middle of March.

My wife doesn't feel comfortable with 'camping' so we'll be doing the lodge and hotel method. Also, we both want to see Victoria Falls.

My wife and I toured Namibia for two weeks last September. We rented a dual cab Toyota from African Sun Car Hire in Windhoek and headed off for two weeks. We hit Etosha, spent several days in the Caprivi Strip and the Caprivi and then down through Chobe National Park in Botswana and to Victoria Falls.

If I had 4 weeks I'd head to the coast for several days, up to Himba areas and Etosha for several days, then through the Caprivi, Chobe and on to Victoria Falls. Depending on how much more time you have, you can either drop the car in Vic Falls and fly back to Windhoek or drive back through Botswana and spend time in the Okavongo Delta, or maybe fly down to Cape Town before heading back to Windhoek (or maybe driving up to Gras from Cape Town as I believe Gras is in the south of Namibia).

I too was told by many to use Cardboardbox and when I contacted them about accomodations in Etosha and the Caprivi Strip their first question was could they help me with a rental car. When I told them I had already taken care of that I did not hear back from them again despite several emails. Same thing happened with another self-tour facilitator. I guess they just were not interested in helping if they could not get the commission from a rental car.

The site is still a wonderful resource as I found most of my Namibian accomodations through their site as well as other information. I just had to book directly rather than through them.

You will obviously want to visit the coast and also Etosha but less obvious and worth a look is an outfit that I think goes by the name of Zambezi Boat tours. They operate from a riverside lodge near Katima Mulilo.They offer fishing from the lodge and overnight tours from a houseboat.The veiws are great and sleeping in the houseboat is quite an experience.
