Michael RobinsonPlenty of good hotels. See the corrida at Las Ventas if you can. See the Prado and other museums. And there’s always Flamenco!

larryshoresI have been several times. The Wellington Hotel is a great location.
Lots of things to see. Personally, I liked the bull fighting museum. Also, there is a place called Segovia that in definitely worth the trip. About an hours drive as I recall.

MARK H. YOUNGLane,
You'll love Madrid. It's not expensive, the food is amazing, having only English is no issue and there is lots of things to do and see.
We noticed only a very few homeless and no encampments.
It feels very safe there.
Do go to the Prado but get a guide ($100) They will know everything about all the historical paintings.
https://www.recoletos-hotel.co...aEAAYASAAEgKY8fD_BwE We stayed here. Very nice, good restaurant on site and excellent other eateries a short walk away.

Rick O'ShayMercado de San Miguel is a must! it's a food hall with a bunch of different vendors that all have different kinds of Tapas. Get a glass of Vermouth on ice and spend a couple of hours grazing the stalls.
As Mark said, go to the Prado. I'm not sure I agree that you need a guide but if you feel it is worthwhile then do that.
Last time in Madrid I stayed at Gran Melia Palacio de los Duques. It was quite nice and not terribly expensive.
In short, my main goal when in Madrid, Tapas, tapas, tapas!

WesheltonjStay near or in Plaza Mayor. Great in the evenings.

bwanajayDoc, if time permits go to the Restaurante Botin in Calle Cuchilleros, Madrid and order the baby pig. This place was opened in 1725 and still has the 18th century firewood oven. The baby pig is roasted whole and absolutely delicious!
31 August 2024, 23:32
spanishhunterYes, that is a good place for baby pig, we called COCHINILLO here, but if you can go to Segovia as Larry suggested, Segovia is famous for cochinillo.
But there is a lot of places to visit in Madrid, of course.
It was a famous "tablao" in which you can watch live flamenco and it was a blast, sadly it closed.
What is the kind of things you are more interested to see in your period here?

gsganzerLane,
My wife and I hired a local guide and did a walking tour of Madrid. It was money well spent.

I can attest that it is excellent.

K EvansHaven’t been to Spain yet, will remedy that in October with a hunt with a group of friends. I think we have a day scheduled for touring, will be fun (wives are going, too).

One would have to fly to Mallorca. Beaches are great . There is a unique animal there to hunt . It’s the baleran boc (spelling?)

spanishhunterThe spelling is right Larry.
Good luck on the partridge "ojeo" Karl

There is an interesting restaurant in Madrid called Boutin. Supposedly , it is the world’s oldest continuously open restaurant. I think it opened in 1725. They specialize in suckling pig. Very interesting place to go to .

Steve AhrenbergHi Lane
Go visit LARM rifles. They used to be called, "Armeria de Madrid". They built me a rifle that is absolutely exquisite.
They are in Madrid and have invited me to come look at their place.
https://larm.com/en/rifles/I don't know if you're a fisherman, but the Erbo river there has the Wells catfish. They achieve ~300#, Lots of local guide services to take you.
Not sure of the seasons. I really want to go catch these things.

spanishhunterLarry, I think is Botin, near Plaza Mayor.
Steve, the river is Ebro. The better place for that fish I think is Mequinenza.

It can be cold. Even snowing. I have been twice in December.
