Does anyone use a military duffel bag to travel with? Would they be any better or worse than a zippered bag? I am thinking about using on on my next trip to RSA.

Do you put a lock on it or just use the snap?

I transport my clothes+ammo in it and use a small lock.

All I use... Most convenient, specially considering all the different modes of travel you end up using in Africa.

Stay away from zipped bags.. Very easy to break into.. I always use a small padlock along with the snap.

Btw.... You can also fold up a spare duffel inside, just in case you do some big trinket shopping..

that is what I routinely use.

If you own a gun and you are not a member of the NRA and other pro 2nd amendment organizations then YOU are part of the problem.

I have used a parachute bag on 4 trips to Africa. Had no problems, the main advantage is with a zipper bag you do not have to dump all your gear to locate something at the bottom of a duffel bag. All soft sided bags are can be breached with a knife or razor. The new USGI duffel bags are made of coated nylon, lighter than the old canvas bags.
