Does anyone have a map of the newly configured terminal? Particularly interested in the Passport Control-Baggage Claim-Customs-SAPS Firearms routing! Is the map posted HERE still accurate? We have a rather tight connection, and just want to be prepared in case Bruce is otherwise occupied when we need him! Les

Hi Les ACSA - The South African Airports Company of SA has not yet put out a new terminal map - they have plenty of parking maps though! I believe with all the new construction going on they may be waiting until it is all done. The link you have in your post is to an old terminal map which is no longer correct. Here is a link to ACSA's website and hopefully they will post a terminal map one day. http://www.acsa.co.za/index.asp Regards Steve

Hi Les Contacted ACSA to see if they had any maps and received the following reply : ank you for contacting ACSA Customer care. We are in the process of updating the maps-we are just awaiting all areas of the airport to open-including the gautrain terminal. In the interim we have appointed iHelp staff that are situated in all the terminals to help with navigation. Best regards Jackie van Pletzen So hopefully in the not too distant future they will post terminal maps to their website. Steve

Thanks Steve! Hopefully everyone will be working full speed when we arrive [ and hopefully the flight will arrive on time!] and it will be no issue getting through passport control, baggage, customs, and to the SAPS! And then to our tight connection to PE! on Departure from RSA, do we need to do anything with the firearms after we check them in PE and give them to the security people to load? Do we see them at JNB or will they be checked through to IAD/TPA? Les

Hi Les Yes - when you check-in your baggage and firearms should be through-checked to Tampa. Make a note of the bag tag number for your firearms. On arrival in Johannesburg go to the Firearms Office in the domestic arrival baggage claim area and let and officer know that you are in transit with firearms. Sometimes they will bring the firearms to this office before loading them onto the Washington flight - but many clients have avised that they just get checked straight through - but it never harms to check. Les and Steve, just returned from RSA and had four clients in tow. SAPS is well marked as soon as you leave the "customs check." Of course you will be going through the nothing to declare line so walk with a purpose. UIpon leaving we flew Durban to Tambo. The clients we all on SAA flights so I tried to get them (the SAA/security folks)to do the weapons check and all in Durban. No go. We had to retrieve them in Jo-berg at domestic arrivals and then re-check them in at international departures. Their other baggage went straight through. A very pleasant change is that the vultures in orange we not to be seen, only a few "uniformed" porters. And the red-backed jackals were very few as well. Good luck Les, and safe travels. dan Dan Donarski Hunter's Horn Adventures Sault Ste. Marie, MI 49783 906-632-1947 www.huntershornadventures.com

Hi Les, Arrivals will now all be in Terminal A, once you are out through the whole customs, etc, route make a right turn and walk down to the SAPS office at the end of the terminal, DO NOT FORGET TO SIGN FOR YOUR RIFLES before entering the arrivals hall, you will see a SAPS sign - where you will need to sign for the rifles there even though you will not be collecting them there but at the SAPS office. If you do not come right, look out for guys in black slacks with orange shirts on, they are VIP passenger assist crews and will gladly help you / point you in the right direction. With regards to your tight connection to PE, be warned firearm permits can take more than two hours when the police are on a go slow or the computer she is broken. oh for that you will need to go to departures B, that is what domestic is now, it is on the other end of the SAPS office If you need more help than that shout

We fooled around in the baggage area looking for the rifle case then fooled around some more trying to get someone to tell us where to find the rifle case. Finally someone told us the rifles are all taken to to the police office which is outside at the front of the airport. By the time we found it we were last in line.
