Not me but I do have one question. I've stayed at afton but have since found it much easier and more sensible to stay at city lodge or tambo. Just wondering why more people don't just stay in the hotel at the airport and fly out the next morning like I have started doing? Is there something I'm missing that afton house offers that I should look into???

For me, it just seemed like the thing to do. Since Delta screwed me with their new baggage policy, forcing me to overnight in Joberg, I just kind of followed the lead of what so many others on the forum have done, stayed with Afton. I am sure things will go smoothly.

Well u might try the city lodge. I walk straight from baggage claim to the font desk in about 5 minutes. A porter follows me with bags if i have to many. The next day i simply make my 5 minute walk back to the terminal and hop back on my next plane.

City Lodge worked well for me last year. My outfitter though wants to pick me up at the Afton House this year, so I will get to experience both. NRA Patron member

Stomper Just my 2cents You are missing something by not staying at the Afton House. One just to say you have stayed at place where almost all the well seasoned African hunters have stayed. It is part of the experience. I agree it's not the same since my friend Louis has past but it's a wonderful family that has helped hunters for years. Also you get to meet other hunters on a one on one at dinner, on the property, breakfast and in the van going to and from the airport. I agree it's not the Hilton or a fancy hotel but real people that have dedicated there endeouvers to help hunters. Try it you will like it. Larry

It was nice talking with other hunters at Afton but I was less than impressed. We got rooms at the end of the hall where the restroom has only a collapsible partition separating the head from the hallway. No sound suppression there. $25 cash up front for a mediocre steak. Hardly enough beers for the group that was staying. Breakfast was included in the stay and it was ok. YMMV. How does one find information on the "city lodge"? I want to keep that in mind for next time.
