In the Directions AND from my Travel agent it is/was stated to have a Form 4457 that is Dated for the year you are arriving or transitioning through South Africa. I received my Form 4475 for my Rifles last year(Dated in 2017)and they will expire 8/30/18. Do I need a Form dated in 2018 instead of 2017?

That is probably a good answer. I have to drive to Seattle to get it done as they closed the U.S. Customs office here.It is a 5 1/2 hour drive round trip. I better head that way in the A.M. Confused

That's changed since I hunted Africa..a 4457 was good for a life time..All my guns had one under the recoil pad or grip cap,and a copy in my wallet at all times..

Today its become a quasi document, when in reality and by law it was nothing more than a receipt to prove it was purchased in the USA,nothing more, nothing less..according to the US Code books. That may have been changed but only by congress..

African customs may have declared it necessary, they absolutely do the dumbest things in the world, 3rd graders running a country can be problematic.

Slider your info is incorrect.

It's the goofy damned expiration date on the govt form......that's the only date that concerns SAPS. If that date is expired, they will refuse your permit.

SAPS, mistakenly looks at your 4457 as your gun permit......we all know it's not.

I've got to drive all the way to Abq, NM to get mine filled out. It's 3 1/2 hours each way. There's a Saturday wasted.

Bob,
Check out your lay overs, Customs has an agent on duty that can issue them if you have a hour of two layover..Its always worked for some I know, but it is cutting it pretty short..
