Chicago $375
Zimbabwe $80
South Africa $60
Bela Bela South Africa $22

All tests are rapid tests. Why the difference?
What prices have you seen?

Why the difference? Some would call it free markets functioning. However, knowing the cost of the tests and workers to run them right now, I'd say any rapid PCR costing over $150 cash is getting into the territory of unadulterated greed. I do know that most of the airline sponsored tests are paying the people doing the tests about $70 and marking the tests up from there. If the test is being administered by a clinic or urgent care, many outfits are requiring a provider visit to order the test which is another $50 and up, I saw another member on here talking about a clinic in Texas charging about $1000 for a rapid PCR, so the sky is the limit as long as people are scrambling to meet airline timelines. Add the kibuki dance of billed rates and contracted payments for people who are insured and the actual reimbursement and it gets even more complicated.

It's just criminality really.

A lateral flow test - the actual test kit, only costs around $3 a pop - my wife gets them in boxes of ten and does two a week. A standard form, insert a name, date, result, press print - does this cost a further $100+??

Booked my PCR test for the Zimbabwe trip. Rapid PCR test $149, if I had opted for the 24 hour result version it would have been $89.

Why do we have vaccination if nobody recognizes it?

If I had been really smart, I would’ve started a Covid testing firm about a year and a half ago. One can pretty much just name his price in that business.

I spent US$780 on COVID tests during a one week trip to the Bahamas a couple of months ago!
