Is there a particular model that jumps out to anyone? Any thoughts or suggestions from experience would be appreciated.

The one I used in RSA, Zimbabwe and Scotland is called Travel Smart by Franzus (now Conair). It comes with four adapter plugs: Continental adaptor for Europe, Africa, Middle East and Asia; short round adaptor pins for England and Far East; square flat blade adaptor pins for England, Hong Kong and Africa; flat parallel blade adaptor pins for South America and Caribbean; angled flat blades for Australia, New Zealand, and China. Comes in a plastic travel case, 2"x2"x5" However, I bought it a long time ago, and there may be better ones on the market. Here is the website: http://www.travelsmartbyconair.com/?franzus=1 The one closest to what I bought years ago is about $22 direct from the factory. There are two used ones showing on Amazon for $16 and $19.95. You generally don't need a converter today as most everything electrical has a power pack and can handle both 110 and 220. About the only thing that perplexes folks is a hair dryer. They don't work so well on 220. ___________________ Just Remember, We ALL Told You So.

The converter I referenced above is for small appliances pulling 1600 volts or less. Hair dryers is one of the appliances it's designed for, along with irons, etc. LTC, USA, RET Benefactor Life Member, NRA Member, SCI & DSC Proud son of Texas A&M, Class of 1969 "A man's reach should exceed his grasp, or what's a heaven for?" I have a small portable hair dryer with a folding handle. Bought it at Bed Bath & Beyond. It works on both 110 & 220. You flip switch for the appropriate voltage. Just needs a plug adaptor which you can get at the airport in Joberg. Just make sure you remember to flip the switch when you arrive at your destination. I once had another hair dryer with a similar setup and forgot to switch it from 110 to 220. It sure ran fast when I went to use it in Zim. Ran very fast but not for very long. Fried the little bugger in a few seconds. My camera and cell phone are both rated for dual voltage. Just plug them in and they charge fine. Tom Z NRA Life Member

Or, as I discovered on this trip, bring a charger for a cigarette lighter and charge all items from the Land cruiser. Far and away the easiest solution. I charge phone, iPad, and camera battery both on the go and when parked at night using 1 device. No worrying about whether I have the correct plug Vote Trump- Putin’s best friend… To quote a former AND CURRENT Trumpiteer - DUMP TRUMP

I like Cal's idea. On the hunt to Zim two weeks ago, I used a cheap converter I bought in Dubai in 2014 and one I purchased through REI this year because I cleaned out my hunting luggage and apparently discarded some converters I used for years. Most of Zim uses 220 volts and both of these inexpensive converters worked fine, with the generator in camp. I charge at night and in the mornings, if needed. I carry spare batteries for my SAT phone and use a solar charger in Alaska or Africa if I am in a spike camp without power, or simply wait until I am out of the bush. I read books on my iPhone, but haven't taken an iPad in the last few trip, so charging the phone is easy.

I bring my converter along with me too and share the outlet at camp with others. On my last hunt with Mokore and Richard Tabor Safaris there was a converter supplied in camp by Mokore I believe, with a power bar housing numerous outlets. This way everyone could have used it at once without waiting their turn.
