Anyone ever gone to JNB by way of Swiss through Zurich?

I'd flown them "way back" but not to S.A.
NYC to Zurich to JNB for about $1700 coach during World Cup 2010. 12 hr. avg. layover in Zurich, but I was thinking "day room" anyhow.

From their website and the Swiss Customs site they're pretty "hunting weapon friendly" too.

Thoughts?

Its been 5 or 6 years since I flew that route so i might not be current. Swiss Air was great and no hassle with the firearms. We had a 1 or 2 hour layover in Zurich. Had to stay in the terminal but no problems. I got searched by their security people on the way back. They were very friendly about it and had lots of questions about my pictures of the hunt. I have not flown with them recently but would not hesitate to do so again.

Mike;

Thanks. You pretty much confirmed what everyone else told me. I'm booked JFK-ZUR-JNB and return for under $1700. That's a trophy fee I saved there!

Bob,

Just flew Swiss to Zurich a few days ago, and UA back. Swiss planes were SO much nicer than the united.

You made the right call. Have a great trip!

new_guy and I did it 2005. Bags were checked thru and we stached out carry-ons in a locker and knocked around Zurich during the day. If you can get a day room, I highly recommend it.
