I am hearing about a new requirement for non-EU travelers that normally do not need a visa to travel to the EU needing a new "permit" - ETIAS starting in 2025. Anyone hearing of this or have one?

The way it looks is: ETIAS only applies to individuals who are nationals of countries that require visa entry to the EU. If you are a National of a country that has Schengen visa waiver, you do not need ETIAS. That is what found now. It specifically says you will be refused entry if yiu do not have ETIAS and you are from a country that requires a visa. Except those from countries which already have a visa waiver.

It is basically an electronic application before your arrival, as many countries require now. And unless you are from a country that might require additional attention, you normally get it within 24 hours. Others might require up to 30 days. This is from a travel agent I spoke to. Travel agents do it routinely if you ask them when you book your ticket. Passengers who prefer to do their own bookings with the airlines have to do it themselves. Information on this is readily available from the embassy of the country in question. I always book through a travel agent.
