While in Tanzania, I have often heard the phrase "moja pamoja" or "umoja pamoja." I am having trouble finding a translation on the web. Can anyone tell me the meaning of the phrase? Thanks. Dabney

Do you mean moja ka moja? If you do, it can mean straight ahead as in directions or alternatively it can mean I agree etc. Swahili is an odd language in that the same word or phrase can often have different meanings depending on context.

I am no expert, but my understanding is that moja pamoja means "all together," whereas moja kwa moja most commonly means "straight ahead." Mike Wilderness is my cathedral, and hunting is my prayer.
