John (Eric): Sounds like you're ready to go. I just got back a couple of days ago so my brain is still fuzzy from the long plane ride. Here's some tips that might help you: 1. When shopping at outdoor craft markets don't take the first price offered. Go to several vendors and get a feel of what the "real price" should be. 2. Take along plenty of Namibian Dollars or South African Rand for the vendors. 3. Take plenty of photos. 4. Put on sunscreen on your skin. Drink plenty of non-alcoholic beverages. 5. Keep the center line of the road on your right shoulder. Drive slower than the speed limit. 6. Make reservations for all restaurants that you plan to eat in, except for bistros. 7. Follow your PH's instructions and shoot straight. 8. Have a good time. Namibiahunter .

Eric, In Windhoek, right downtown on Independence Ave. (?) maybe three blocks from the Kalahar Sands, on the Second floor is the Gourmet Restaurant for lunch or dinner. Really good food, as opposed to Joe's Beer Hall that is really good atmosphere and frankly ordinary food. In Swakop, there used to be a restaurant on a beached tugboat (The Tug???) It's good seafood. If you want some "elegance" try the dining room at the Hansa Hotel. By the way, next to the Hansa is the best jewelry shop in the Southern Hemisphere (just in case gifts are in order... especially for the Chancellor of the Exchequer). Regards, Tim

Thanks, guys, for the advice. Luckily the Chancellor of the Exchequer is a benevolent dictator and allows me much latitude in the dispensation of funds. She also isn't big on gifts or jewelry, but I will definitely look into the jewelry shop and check out what they have - I might find something just perfect for her _____________________________________________________________________________________________________ Far better is it to dare mighty things, to win glorius triumphs, even though checkered by failure... than to rank with those poor spirits who neither enjoy nor suffer much, because they live in a gray twilight that knows not victory nor defeat. - Theodore Roosevelt

John, Claudia Horn is a great lady and her hotel is one of the cleanest I've stayed in anywhere at her very reasonable room rate. Ask Claudia what she recommends, she knows her business very well and is a real wine nut and she loves hunters. Just mention that you know me from the forum and she will give you as much help as possible........... Cheers and have a great hunt John, Verbera!, Iugula!, Iugula!!! Blair.

Not even having MET her yet and already I get that impression - she is quite wonderful, helpful, and a real gem. I'm bringing her a special gift that I know she'll love, and will definitely ask her about places to go and shop while I'm there - thanks!
