I went to CBP at DzFW today to get two new 4457’s for upcoming trips. There were all new officers behind the glass today and, as usual, gave the same instructions about bringing firearms into the building. The officer instructed me to fill out the form that they provide, it is a standard 8.5 x 11 piece of paper, the bottom half being instructions. I filled out and they processed and put their stamp on both the form and the instructions, the form is now not readily trim able and nowhere on the form does it have the form number (4457). This is what I normally use as a firearms license number on permits when I travel to hunt, this might create a problem.
Not sure if other CBP offices are using this form or not.

Karl, I just got new 4457’s completed a week ago. Customs officer in Sacramento is a great guy. The biggest delay is just talking with him about last hunt and next hunt. I fill out my 4457s ahead of time, so he just has to confirm the accuracy, stamp & sign them. I didn’t even notice that the form number is no longer on the current version of the form.

Used to be that way at DFW, apparently no longer. I’d bet the officer you dealt with wasn’t a new hire.
My son got a new 4457 two weeks ago at DFW, had it prefilled and the officer didn’t check his ID or even look at the rifle, just stamped it. No telling what one will get when getting a 4457 at DFW.

I'm like DLS. I went last Thur. to CBP in Springfield with 4457's filled out from online. I added a scope to one rifle and asked him if I needed to bring with me. He said I know you and you're trying to do the right thing just bring the form. I went in with the rifle and scope he didn't even look at it and signed it. I asked him if he had any of the smaller forms and vs the 8.5x11 and he said no I had the latest one with no expiration date and the form no. down below all the blank space on left. Thought about cutting the blank space off before laminating but would get rid of form ID.

This whole exercise is ridiculous and fertile ground for DOGE.

That said, I printed out two new forms, will duly fill them out, and take the trek to the Customs office near IAH to get the requisite stamp so I can get a Dutch permit and take my rifles to Tanzania.
