Delta reduces scope of second-bag fee

Delta is pulling back on its plan to charge $50 for second checked bags on international flights.

Delta will apply the fee only to routes between the United States and Europe because competitors refused to institute a similar charge, airline officials confirmed.

Earlier this year, Delta CEO Richard Anderson announced that the second-bag fee would start July 1 for all international flights except for service to and from Brazil, where federal regulators wouldn’t allow it.

Before scaling it back, Delta expected the new fee to raise $100 million annually.
