Does anyone know of something like the Afton House in Maputo? Am going through there in August and have an overnight layover on the return trip.

My PH says there is nothing safe in Maputo and will not let any incoming or going clients spend the night there. JMTCW.

Let's just say that there is no alternative but to overnight in Maputo on the return trip.

With all of the African travelers on this site surely some Accurate Reloading lurker has been there -- please assist.

Aarow Slinger,

Try the Polana Serena. It has been rcently renovated. Do not let them put you in the Polana Mar though. Request a room in the main hotel. I've only had a few clients travel through Maputo to the Coutadas but they were happy with the Polana.

Good luck!

Mark

I just returned from the Lichinga area and stayed at the Southern Sun in Maputo going and coming. It was a nice hotel, right on the beach, about 7 K's from the airport and a resident of Maputo told us it was safe in the surrounding area. Walked down to a seafood restaurant near the hotel on night and on the beach without any problems. Going and coming from the airport looked a little rough.
