i'm going to new mexico with jim welles in feb. i'm not going to the airport 2 hrs early, i'm not checking my guns, i probably will have a handgun on my belt. food will be served hot and tasty. my baggage can weigh up to a ton. TSA will not need to crawl up my azz. there will be no snotty desk bound paperpushers. i won't have to wait in line to go to the head. i won't be required to buy upgrades or other stupid charges Oh yea - did i mention that i was driving? and so to all those wonderful airlines we all have to fly

You are so right. After flying around the west on hunting trips in my younger years, now I drive wherever I'm hunting in the west. I've driven through every western state, as well as BC and Alberta on hunting trips. Nowadays, I only fly on hunting trips when I can't drive.

I agree Butch, driving to Kansas in Dec For Whitetails with CB. 16 hr drive but that is better than 5 min with TSA.

Have a great trip. I think one of the big hunting writers, Terry Wieland, Wayne Van Zwoll, one of them, definitely suggest driving to any western hunt, if at all possible.

Next elk hunt, I'm driving. Last time I flew coach and, a couple of weeks later, I think the meat flew first class.

Be sure and post the results of your elephant hunt...Oh, wait a minute, do they have elephant in N.M.? This is the African Travel forum, yes?

Yes we do have elephant in New Mexico. I know of at least 6 really good bulls here. Fees are pretty high, but that's pretty much the case everywhere. Also you don't have to worry about importing then into the Country, since they are already in!!
