Lighting in Addis cargo area is minimal.
Harrare office not much better.
I went through with a CZ 550 and a Mauser that I had done in Matte black. They must have used glass beading and then blue.
Serial number is difficult to read in good light. I had to read them off to EA security as he couldn't make them out.
A china marker or grease pencil would make it a lot easier and quicker.

I have white marker stick that helps a lot. I think I got it from Brownell's.

Great idea! I have three rifles that I’ve used and hauled around so much that I have memorized their SN’s. But that’s not true of all of them! Thanks.

I had a Winchester M70 in Moz earlier this year, the lighting in the small room where the police checked the rifle was nonexistent, they were trying to read the serial number with cell phone lights, wasn’t working very well as they couldn’t tell whether one numeral was a “5” or an “S”…it was a “5”. $10.00 would have remedied the issue but I chose to put light on the subject with a small one AAA battery LED flashlight I carry in my pocket, solved the low-light problem.
I do have a CZ 550 that I’ve used a white metal marker pen to highlight the number, otherwise very hard to cipher, even in good light.

I have used a Birchwood Casey gold stick for eons to highlight in gold, among other things, the serial numbers on all of my firearms. It not only looks expensive, but it is so easy to read whatever you highlight with the gold stick. I learned this trick about 20 or so years ago from one of my late gunsmiths. He had a politically incorrect name for it. Big Grin
