Hong Kong international is open again after being shut down by protesters on Monday and Tuesday. The protest at the airport took place Friday to Tuesday with thousands occupying the terminals. I’ve had people in Hong Kong for several months and sent someone to check the airport on Sunday. We were able to get a traveler out that day without difficulty. New security measures are in place to keep protesters out going forward. The next major protests in the city are scheduled for the weekend. It remains to be seen if a challenge against the airport will be mounted. Protesters can adversely impact air travel without going to the airport itself by targeting the Airport Express MTR station in the city center. If you have business interests in Hong Kong it is safe to travel, but best to time your arrival and departure to avoid Saturday-Sunday-Monday. Sunday nights are the most likely time for violent protests in areas of the city. There is a risk of Beijing cracking down and entering Hong Kong. If this happens, I expect the central government to go out of their way to protect foreigners. However, there could be significant freedom of movement disruptions. | ||
