I'm in there process of booking flights with air miles for next year, and one of my options is a connection through Sao Paulo, Brazil, then direct to Johannesburg. I haven't taken this route, so I'm interested if anyone has experience with connecting through there with guns.

Thanks

I connected there several years ago enroute to Argentina. No problems but the Sao Paulo airport was very crowded on the return flight. Lots of folks connect there.

But, what about traveling with guns?

I have been there several times on business, the airport is a madhouse and is a long cab ride from the good hotels in the city center. I don't have a clue about traveling thru with firearms but do know Brazil does not like guns of any type.

Thanks for the responses. Think I'll stick with the familiar no hassle route through Frankfurt.

For d.unger;

Frankfurt is no longer "hassle free",given the new German Gun Import permit now required. The permit even reportedly applies to guns claimed and rechecked in Frankfurt as well as those in transit and checked through to final destination.
I was able to get guns checked thru to Windhoek last July,avoiding the permit but things may have tightened up since then. Check for latest with Steve Turner at Travel With Guns.com. I have been thru Frk. five times but I am trying the JFK/Ny -Jbg. Whk. route on my next trip to avoid the permit hassle as well as the $100
(each way) "surcharge" for guncase by Air Namibia.
