If not, or if it is a piddly amount, how do you guys insure your rifle against theft? Does the airline bear some responsibility if your luggage is stolen?
My home insurance does not cover me for much and has a very high deductible (state insurer of last resort in FL - crap coverage, but $850 beats $4200 a year any day).

Type in firearms insurance to the find function and you'll all you need to know...

Thanks - I found what I needed and am insuring away!

John I insured two rifles for $5700 each the day I left for Africa. The insurance was good for a year in travel or at home. I think it is called Sportsman Insurance from Ormond Beach Fla and they advertise in SCI publications. I think I paid $140 dollars for the nearly $12,000 in coverage and I am glad I did as the stock of one rifle was broken when I returned. Well the airline paid $1500+ and the insurance paid $2700 as I had insured them as the basic models I should have insured them for actual replacement value and I would have received the full amount to replace my special selection stock. I won this gun so I really did not realize the stock would cost $6000 to replace. They would have given me the full amount of insurance if I had sent them my rifle. I am glad I had the coverage. It was my third trip over and my first time to insure my rifles.

I have all my rifles covered with a 'rider' on my home owners insurance. I also have 2 of them covered for out of country trips. I think it costs me about $10 per $1000 per year, and the 2 for out of country is something like $4-5 extra.

Like army aviator, I insure through Sportsman's Insurance in Ormand Beach, FL. They will also insure rings, mounts, trigger jobs, cases, removable muzzle brakes, and all your optics. The rates are very reasonable, and I have my deer rifles and my .375 listed, along with my scopes and binos.
If you own very expensive or custom guns, make sure you include a current appraisal with your application. It's one of the best deals in the shooting world, and the way airlines lose luggage these days, it's a big weight lifted off your shoulders when that rifle case heads down the conveyor, maybe never to be seen again.

My travel agent got me a Trip Insurance package that included insurance for my rifle, scopes, etc. - very reasonably priced, too.
