Hi guy, what NP and Reservers in Moz are worth a visit? I was told game numbers are low in all Parks/Areas but which parks are acutally worth to visit when in Moz? Any other things you have to see/do in Moz? Thanks alot. Cheers Dennis

I've hunted Moz twice, but never done any touring nor visited any parks. Not even sure if any parks even warrant a visit. Moz is still well behind many other southern african countries due to their long civil war. While I consider it one of the two best safari destinations currently - Zambia being the other - I'm not sure there is anything to really "see" outside of hunting. JMO. I spent a month hunting Niassa two years ago and thought it fantastic. I was, of course, in a buffer zone bordering the park itself, but the game was very plentiful and it would have been a great trip even without the hunting. Northern Mozambique is a real taste of the old East Africa. When you get bored with life, start hunting dangerous game with a handgun.

Caracal, I think if your looking for an add-on to a safari in Mozambique a few days at a beach resort might be the might be your best bet. As Steve said the beaches are beautiful and can be very private. The good hunting areas have lots of game but my understanding is that the parks are a shadow of what they might be. Mark MARK H. http://dancingwiththewildbeast.blogspot.com/ Not sure if this posted reference qualifies or not, so will defer to Mark's experience. I tune into this blogspot regularly to see what's going on in the Niassa Reserve area. The Niassa Reserve has been receiving a fair amount of Internet press here of late. It sounds like one of the fabled areas where parts of the old Africa of myth and legend remain. It is located on the border with Tanzania along the Revuma river, and you really have to want to go to get there. The Luwire (Lugenda Wildlife Reserve) is a hunting lodge/concession who I understand also offers wildlife or eco-tours. The whole area has perked my interest for a number of years now. First, because of this book, "At the Mercy of the River," by Peter Stark. It chronicles the 2004 first decent of the Lugenda River through the Niassa Reserve. Adventure reading at its finest. And secondly, the methodic entre and jostling for hunting concessions around this area by some of the big names in the safari business. The area may not exactly be on my bucket list, but then again, it might be.

The area around and the Niassa reserve itself high up in the North of MOZ are fantastic. As some others already said: a tast of old Africa. Also there are some great beaches, e.g. around Pemba. Fantastic diving and snorkeling. I have hunted in one of the blocks around Niassa in 2009. Great hunt and great outfit. Any questions you are welcome to send me a PM. rgds, Andy
