Flying on Delta to Joburg. Can I check in with delta and have my ammo in my gun case with my rifle?

When leaving Joburg for Zim I want to pack my ammo in a locked Pelican 1200 and check it in along with my gun case (containing rifle only).

Everything else I want to carry on.

Trying to.

I want to check only the gun case and walk on with my carry-on bag and "personal item"

I took way too much stuff last time. This time I am trying to go minimalist.

Yes..

Been there done that..

But the reverse is true for return.. African carrier's want your ammo locked, in your check in baggage..

Allan,

If you used Gracy call them and ask what Delta is currently requiring.

I have been hasseled in Tanzania and Zim for departures without brass and ammo for the rifles I was returning home with.

I went into Zimbabwe with 60 rounds of 375HH two weeks ago and returned without it two days ago. They asked whare it was. Told them I shot all of it. They gave me an evil eye in the Bulawayo airport, but thats all that happened.

Tell the scum suckers that your scope was off & you shot all of your ammo trying to resight it.
Then had to borrow a rifle from your P.H. to hunt with.
After 3 trips, I haven't brought a round home yet.

Hi,

No! You cannot carry your ammo in your gun case with the firearm. I checked with delta today.

Regards,
Adrian
