Can someone give me a current ball park figure for the cost of airfare (coach) from Dulles to Windhoek, Namibia via Frankfurt?

Also how much more $ on average is this route vs. through Johannesburg.
Thanks.

It depends on when you go. I've flown to Windhoek for as cheap as US$1350 r/t and I've seen it as high as US$4500 r/t.

If you go US to Frankfurt to Windhoek, Air Namibia is cheaper than going through Jo'burg.

I am going from home (Shreveport,La.) to Windhoek via Atlanta. Flying Delta and the all in price was $2280. US. Tickets purchased six months ago.

I suspect it is going up as gas prices climb.

I booked a last minute(last week) flight from Dallas to Harare through J'burg , about the same as windhoek) for an eyewatering 2900.00usd. Don't know if it was fuel or last minute boking.

Just talked to my agent, and the Idaho-SLC-ATL-JNB-HRE round trip quote was $2900, including all fees and taxes. Seems fuel has driven cost up about 15-20%.

If you'll go to www.kayak.com and input the departing date and airport in the U.S. plus the returning date from WDH you can get some quotes. This will return quotes for both the European routes and the JNB routes. Depending on the departing and returning days of the week, you may be routed through either Frankfurt or Gatwick. All days of the week will get you a quote through JNB, but for a number of reasons it is a less desirable route to WDH than going through Europe in my opinion. However, if you can get an outgoing through Europe and a return flight through JNB, you can cut a lot of time off of your return.

After playing with www.kayak to get an idea of prices and availability, call Kathi at Wildtravel to do your "real" booking.
