Zim gun permits

larryshoresZim gun permits
I need help resolving a dispute with my assistant. She says she found out " somewhere" that gun permits are not required for Zim any longer. This sounds like BS to me. I told her to fill in the paper work from last year anyway.
Can anyone enlighten me on this matter?

L. David KeithLarry, I've never had a per se "gun permit" in Zim. We did however need a SAPS "in transit" permit if we collected our guns in Jo'burg for an overnight stay before flying up to Bulawayo the next morning. One year I checked my guns/baggage straight to Bulawayo and they didn't arrive with me. It was a United problem as they didn't leave Dulles with me. I had to change planes at the last minute. They arrived the day after I left for camp. Had them in camp two days after I arrived. The only thing we did in Zim was buy our Visa at the airport in Bulawayo. They checked our luggage and guns briefly upon arrival in later trips but did a more thourough check leaving.
Cheers,
David

larryshoresI have been 6 or 7 times to Zim. Each time I had to fill in paperwork for the guns in Zimbabwe. I had to show these same papers when I left. It reflected a description of the guns and the number of rounds of ammo.

K EvansLarry: I'm with you, both times I have been to Zim I had to fill out their paperwork (in triplicate) and present it after I claimed my rifle case but before leaving the "secured" area of the airport. They even checked the numbers earlier this month. I printed them off of the internet and completed the forms before leaving home....I just didn't have an assistant to fill them out for me.

MARK H. YOUNGLarry,
You don't need a "Gun Permit" but you do need as always a Visitor's Certificate to Possess Firearms and Ammunition. You can fill it out upon arrival at the airport in Zim. What I recommend is to get a copy of the certificate, fill it out before you arrive Zim and bring 4 copies with you. The Zim guys at the airport will need three copies and you'll need to keep one for yourself. This will save loads of time at the airport particularly if they can't find the carbon paper and you end up writing out each of four copies by hand. If you need a certificate form send me your regular e-mail and I'll send you crisp copy.

MARK H. YOUNGI always take $200 in $5 and $10 denominations to make sure I have the right change for these incidentals like the Zim visa. Do not expect these guys to ever have the correct change.
