All day in Frankfurt - ideas?

Going back to Namibia at the end of August, thru Frankfurt again. Last year, I had wife and SIL with me, we spent a couple days there, great time. This year, just me, and arriving early morning, departing that evening. Anyone care to cast out any ideas for something to do all day?

I prefer to stay awake all day to adjust to new time zone, then sleep that night, so going to the hotel is probably NOT the best for me. Last year we did wine tours etc, to keep the girls awake until night nite time. Since we already did the wine tours, and I have been there quite a few times on business, done the beer garden thing, was trying to come up with a couple new ideas.

So? And thanks in advance!

Take the train to down town. Lots of stuff to look at and good eats.

Mainz is a very interesting town to look around and only a short train ride from the airport terminal. A lot of history to look at. The Mainz Cathedral was worth the trip alone.

I've just been once and took the train downtown where we spent a very pleasant June afternoon. It was a Saturday and some kind of festival going on with lots of food and drink kiosks set up.

But I can give a hearty second to your notion that staying up, awake, and active is a much better option than half-sleeping the day away in a $250 hotel room and preventing your body from acclimating to the time change. You'll be very proud that you kept active all day so that you can sleep much better on the long overnight flight to Africa.

+1. Sorry, just re-read and realized you're by yourself.

When I went through in June I just headed for the river then followed it along through the various sites. There are some huge old churches and cathedrals there within walking distance, plus restaurants, etc. I just wandered toward whatever caught my eye.

Wife and I did a bus tour that was nice. Took the train from the airport into the city and from there caught the city tour bus. As memory serves me it was "Grey Line Bus Tours" (?). It took a couple hours and was reasonably priced.

As I said, I have been there a few times, used to go a couple times a year on business to Offenbach, just across the river, Have done most of the tours and the river, which I enjoyed very much. Was looking for something a bit more out of the tourist thing, local restaurant or something for people watching.

I may also ask the Lufthansa conceirge, they may have some ideas also.
