Heading out on Emirates tomorrow with the whole family going to the Kelly's. This will be the kids first taste of Africa. Anyone else going on this flight? Dean

Dean, I am not going until early August but I will be interested to hear how your experience on Emirates goes with the layover, rifles, etc. I will be making the same Emirates run. Mike

I've heard get your free hotel voucher at the airport in Houston, otherwise when you get to Dubai they will tell you they're full up but for a couple hundred bucks you can have a room. Dean

I ended up rebooking after the free room offer expired at the end of March so I had to get my room in any event. Mike

Just got back last night. Emirates is a step above any airlines I have flown in the past. I am too sleepy to go into all the details at this time, but PM me for a full rundown. Dean

Please share Emirates details on this thread for those of us looking for alternate airlines to Africa. Thanks! Sorry for the delay, as I try to stay away from the computer on the weekends. First let me start by saying I did not take any firearms with me, I knew the trip would be exciting enough toting two young boys and my wife halfway around the globe. When I first booked the tickets with Emirates, the lady at customer service recommended we try row 47 on all legs of the trip. I am glad we did, Instead of the 3-4-3 layout starting with row 46 it is 2-4-2, the extra aisle room made a big difference no body bumping you with the cart while you sleep plus you are close to the restrooms and galley. Food is plentiful in coach and of the highest quality, the only problem I had was the flight personnel spoiled my boys with toys, backpacks, sweets and all the food they could eat. The kid’s meals could feed a couple grown adults. My boys suckered the ladies into giving them Bar One candy while I was sleeping, besides that the flight crew was top notch and very easy on the eyes. Once we got to Dubai it was a bit confusing I thought we were to stay at the airport hotel but we were whisked away to the Millennium Hotel offsite. Emirates provided us with meal and snack vouchers for our overnight stay at the hotel. The Millennium Hotel’s buffet is a mixture of Arabic, Indian and European. A little tip use your snack voucher for bottled water and don’t eat foul-mudammes for breakfast before you get on the plane. The hotel has a shuttle that runs to the airport every ½ hour so no worries on getting there. For those of you who can’t sleep on the plane, Emirates has the best entertainment selection I’ve seen on international flights. Each seat has a high quality display so you can watch over 800 movies without burning your eyes out also there are power outlets so you can charge your electronics, my boys wore them out on their Ipods. Be sure to bring a USB cable that fits your electronics. Dean

I forgot to answer the main question, Yes this is the way to go. I've done various routes in the past Heathrow, Frankfurt, Atlanta this one keeps your butt out of Joburg and you get to fly with people who like their job. Dean

1/2 way there Dean...where's the hunt report? Robert If we can prevent the government from wasting the labors of the people, under the pretense of taking care of them, they must become happy. Thomas Jefferson, 1802

RVL Still trying to sort thru over a 1000 pictures. The report will take awhile, it is hard to summarize a hunt that starts at 8500 feet down to sea level. Dean
