Anyone have any tips on getting through? The number they gave me I can’t ever get to work.

I’ve been trying to get through as well, as I’m traveling with sniper and he beat me to this post. The last call I made they gave me a number that doesn’t even work.

I finally got it sorted out. It took numerous calls and being on hold to get confirmation to travel with rifles. If you book with a travel agent they can add it to the ticket booking much easier. If like me you do it direct it is a lot of calls and difficult communication.

The number I had the best luck with is 312 392 3679

Did you use a travel agent or book your own flight? If you booked your own flight I would contact someone like Gracy Travel and see if they can assist you since you are on a tight schedule.

You may already know this but Qatar does require a "Declaration of Surrender of Firearms" document in advance as well as an import license from the company that you are hunting with. I've also had rifle serial number issues when checking in with Qatar. I would triple check their gun/ammo paper work to yours at the counter. Qatar has always been very professional when handling issues. I will be flying Qatar to Tanzania next weekend.

The fee that travel agents like TWG charge is a pittance compared to the total cost of your airline ticket and safari. The help they provide in assisting with traveling with rifles, up to date information on Covid testing requirements, etc. is invaluable. In this day and age, trying to navigate these waters on your own, while doable, is hardly advisable. No matter how much homework I do, I will never understand the process as thoroughly as TWG, have the network of contacts they do to expedite issues or sort out problems and the like. Money well spent in my opinion.

I have to agree with both Mark and Mike on this issue. Due to an ignorant Delta employee who took our boarding passes and tore them up, telling us we had to gather our bags and go through customs before we could board our flight back to Atlanta( we were "In Transit" as we were just passing through Joburg) and going as far as having a South Africa customs agent escort us out of the secure area. One call to Gracy's 24 hour number and they had their people in Joburg at the airport 20 min. later and it was all straightened out quickly with apologies from a different Delta agent.
For this kind of service , and much more, they charge $300.00 extra, money well spent in my opinion.

Bruce (Joberg) on the ground for Gracy travel, will provide you his telephone number, that you can text or call to let him know that you are still on schedule or if you are experiencing any issues. Money that is well spent for the service that is provided.

I've heard mainly positive things about flying on qatar airlines. But not having a readily accessible phone line in the US makes me wonder what they were thinking. How could anyone in management allow this to continue?
