I'm going over everything and I want to make sure that I don't forget anything. So here's a little list of where I'm at and please let me know if I need to make any changes.

1. I've got a storm case for my gun and some locks from the local locksmith, (I presume airline approved). I plan to put two locks on my Storm case. I also plan to engrave my name, phone number and NRA number on the outside of the case.

2. I've got a small Pelican case for my ammo. I have the same lock as my rifle case for it. I plan to pack my cartridges into 20 round MTM boxes and then put the MTM's into the small Pelican and lock it. The Pelican will go into my checked baggage. I don't have any factory cardboard boxes, will this be an issue?

3. I've got an Ipod, cell phone, vid camera and small digital camera that I will cary on my travel vest or my carry on luggage. Most of my packed clothes will also go in my carry on. I plan to make my checked luggage big enough that I can store my carry on in it during layovers and overnights. Is it a good idea to carry all of the electronics with me or should i cut out a space for it in my rifle case?

4. I have an Ipod, are there any good apps that I should download for the long air flight? Perhaps a good movie? is there an app for the perfect shot, or whatever that book is that shows where the vitals are on different animals? (that would be fun to look at on the way there)

5. I was originally told to get to the airport 2 hours early, now I've been told to get there even earlier. So what is best, 2 hours? 3 hours? We will be checking in Madison, WI and NYC on the way over.

This is my first safari, if anyone has any other travel suggestions or ideas, I am all ears.

First if you flying through JFK it probably won't be a pleasant experience. The airlines will not check your rifles. They will contact NYPD to do that. You may have to wait an hour +/- for NYPD to show up. Pull the bolts from the rifles and wrap them in your extra socks but leave them with your rifles. They want to see that the guns are empty. Customs likes this also. Did you declare your guns with Customs yet? If not do that ASAP. You need their form to get back into the States with your guns. If you are going through Joberg do you have your South African Police gun paperwork done? If you are transiting Joberg to Namibia and have to stay overnight you need the S.A. gun permit. Don't pack too much stuff. The airlines usually have a good selection of movies to watch on the video device in your seat. I hope you have an isle seat so you can get up and walk around. It is a long flight. Good luck.

I took 3 times as much stuff as I needed the first time and twice as much the second time.

I don't know how many you have to go on before you get it right but I'm hoping 3rd times a charm. Big Grin
