Has anyone tried their service from Washington-Dulles to Harare [or Johannesburg]?

This requires an overnight in Addis Ababa, at least in one direction. Is that a reasonable thing to do?

I have seen their safety rating listed as D or F which is not good.

Never worry about theory as long as the machinery does what it's supposed to do.

I flew Ariana Afghan Airlines in 2001 and on the A-F scale I think that their safety rating was an R.

Wanderer,

Do you recall where you saw that safety rating?

Was it the Air Travelers Association report Card, which Ethiopian Airlines took exception to?

It would, I'm sure, be handy for all of us to have that kind of information available!

Hello,
It has been quite a few years since I travelled over the planet like a yo yo, but I can honestly state that of all the things Ethiopia conjures up in my mind, memory, etc., Ethiopia Airlines is not one of them. Nah, I would try another approach I believe, but God Speed in any event.

I don't know how safety ratings are done, but here is a link on a recent news blip which included Ethiopian Airlines.

One rating was from the Air Travelers Association report and to be honest I can't remember where the other one came from. I've traveled a bit in Africa and the only major African carriers I would use would be Air Namibia, South African and in a pinch Egypt Air but I wouldn't be ecstatic about it.

I have flown Ethiopian Airlines many, many times and have no complaints. It is one of the better African Airlines. It was partnered with TWA for the first years of its existence and is now partnered with Lufthansa for technical support.

Have heard they are totally fine...(from paddlers using them out of EU to Uganda)

If an airline flys into the US, it must meet FAA regulations and standards anyway right?

Food- can't be worse than most US carriers!

I've also flown on Ethiopian quite a bit and never had a problem. The service has always been excellent.

I'm getting ready to fly with them from Djibouti to Addis to Washington (with a stop in Rome) on Sunday - I'll let you know how it goes.
