I currently use the Sportsman's Insurance Agency, Inc. to insure my firearms but I was thinking maybe there is a better company to go with. My firearms would have to be insured in my home as well as when I travel even internationally. Suggestions as well as experiences good and bad with this and/or other companies would be appreciated.

Eastern Insurance has the best I've found as to rates and coverage. But, twice when I emailed to add a rifle I didn't get a reply. I haven't ever insured my guns, in part because they are all pretty basic factory rifles and I've figured that between the insurance premiums and the time and effort involved in filing a claim and deductibles, I would probably lose money. That said, if I had some really high dollar firearms ($5 - $6k plus) I probably would insure them. The biggest question I would have around gun insurance is not which company has lower premiums but which companies honor claims efficiently. Any input would be appreciated. Sorry to Grumulkin if I've gotten off topic.

I was reluctant to insure my guns years ago. Been with Nationwide for 40 years. They no longer insure guns as a rider. Sucked it up and went with State Farm (same rates as NRA). Went to Africa one summer. Insured the guns I took with Sportsman Ins. Agency(SCI). Three months later my house burned down. I lost 65 guns. State Farm had an agent at my house 2 days later. Claim paid in 2 weeks. Sportsman settled in one month. These were mostly run of the mill guns, but I got the full value for them and replaced what I wanted. I still have coverage with State Farm. Doesn't protect you too much for travel though, or a hot fire, flood, etc. Mac
