Twenty years ago I asked a friend who was then an Ambassador what he thought about Africa. His answer was "I don't". He went on:"We could spend the entire gross national product of the USA on sub Saharan Africa for the next 20 years and we'd still have nothing to show for it. Africa can't be fixed in a hundred years. Maybe not in 500." So far he's been right. He had some interesting things to say about Iran too that are just coming true.
