I just finalized my maiden voyage to Africa. I'll be hunting plains game in Namibia in May with Intoafricahunting. Who else is traveling to Namibia around May 11?

450/400 who are you hunting with.
What kind of firepower are you first timers taking. I'm thinking 300 WBY with 180 gr TSX or Hornady Spire point.

I am hunting with Janneman Brand of Kalahari Safari. This is my second trip, the first time was to Zimbabwe in 2005.

I am taking a Brno 21h in 8x57 loaded with either 196 gr Woodleighs or 180 TSX. My wife is going with me. This will be her first time hunting big game of any kind.

I am also taking a 450/400 loaded with 400 gr Woodleighs.

I vote for the Barnes, I took Hornady's last time and I think they are too soft, especially when you shoot the smaller stuff.

450/400; You will enjoy hunting with Janneman. We have hunted with him twice and enjoyed every minute of it. I shot all my critters with my 30-06 with 180g bullets

Bryan, what game did you take with Janneman and at what distances. I am wondering if shots are farther rather than closer.

I just returned from Namibia a week ago, vacationing, visiting friends, and some hunting. I took .375 H&H (zebra, 2 wildebeest). My son took a .308 Win (springbok), and my hunting buddy took a .338 WinMag (kudu, oryx, 2 warthogs).

Namibia hunters, be prepared for high grass and thick foliage in the next few weeks. The Kalahari is very green right now.

I assume that's going to make it a more difficult hunt? Or will it make it easier with better cover? My wife and I are going in May.

I think it works both ways- it's harder to see the animals but it's also harder for the animals to see you. With the wind blowing in my favor I was able to get within 40 yards of my zebra.

My family and I depart Phoenix on July 21st and return to Phoenix on Aug 4th. We are hunting with Omuramba Hunting Lodge. This is our first trip to Africa. We are hunting the standard plains game animals.

We are flying Phoenix-Chicago-Frankfurt-Windhoek and back again.

My Son (13) and Daughter (10) are shooting a Savage 7MM-08 and I am taking my Kimber Montana .300 WSM. I am shooting 180gr TSX. I am still working out the load for my kids.

ArtP,

PM me.

We're actually booked at Rita and Dirk's until the 13th, and our flight out is on the evening of the 16th. We're still trying to decide what to do with the extra 3 days. Maybe lounge around camp, or go to Swakopmund so the kids can see the dolphins, seals, etc.
