Steve (not Shakari):

I'm on the KLM plane. We arrive in Detroit mid-afternoon and fly to Amsterdam over night and then down to Dar. Are you coming from Detroit, also? Perhaps we will be on a couple of planes together. Are you hunting with Adam's folks?

I'll be escorting 1115's wife (see above) who is going to be an observer for a few days with him (me, too), before I start my safari. You will enjoy her. She's really excited about the trip and you can tell here about cobras in your boots and four-foot wide killer spiders that dwell in the en suite!

Will you be at the Sea Cliff? I'm flying coach, btw, and have no problem with the way KLM has set up its a/c.

Let's make a bet! I'll buy you a scotch at Dar upon return if you kill a buff an inch wider than mine????

I think we'll be in Ru-2?

JudgeG,

I feel it only fair to the readers here, to warn them about my wife. The contagious rash that covers most of her body is almost under control, and the strain of AIDS that she has responds to most medicines when the HERPES isn't active. We don't know why her hair is falling out, but her doctor says it may be a new kind of syphillis, or some unknown ailment yet to be named. She is a nice person though, and as long as people stay at least 5 feet from her they should have no problem, except for the lice, and then only if the person is standing downwind. I appreciate your offer to escort her, as I was really worried about sitting beside her for all of those hours. I want to be healthy for my hunt!!! (That oughta keep her "safe" huh???)

JudgeG, We're leaving from Seattle on NWA to Amsterdam, then KLM Flt 569 to Dar. Chartering out to the hunting area on the 14th then back in Dar the 22nd and leave the night of the 23rd. Will be hunting with Game Trackers Africa, Hamish Manning is the PH. I am assuming we will be at the Sea Cliff. This is my first time and it was arranged by my hunting companion through Farren Global Adventures.

steve, Jaco Oosthuizen( the outfitter/ph/owner) of game trackers africa is a good friend of mine. if you happen to meet him, give him my regards. he is a stand-up guy and fun to share a sundowner with. ask him about our limo rides from the Silver Legacy to the SCI parties at the convention center!!!!

Since I started this thread, I thought I would update my status this year. Due to the situation in Tanzania with the fee increases, I was forced to cancel my trip. My wife and I are very dissapointed but we will survive. I booked the trip with Ray Atkinson, and he is giving me a full refund, and has been great throughout this ordeal. To those of you that are still able to hunt in Tanzania, I wish you the best and hope that your safari is all you ever wished for and more.

1115 I hunted with PVT (Wikus) about 3 weeks ago and no change in fees.

I almost cancelled given the doom and gloom about Tanzania on AR but figured that you can't always go by what you read on AR.

Have you checked with PVT (or his wife) to see if there really is a significant change in the fees? Especially on a buff and pg only hunt.

Sidneye and Steve,

The increase that was passed on to me via Pierr'e was the increase in daily rate, and the first buffalo, as well as the trophy fee on second buffalo and other animals. Pierr'e had finally gotten to the point where he was forced to pass on the increases and I have no problem with that. The increases would have added over $2000.00 to my trip, and I just don't have the extra money. My wife was going as an observer, and we were going to Zanzibar on a day trip after the hunt. I could have left my wife at home, and made the hunt, but she means more to me than any safari, so I cancelled. Ray was able to find someone to take my spot, so Pierr'e is not out any money. This is not the fault of Ray and Pierr'e, it is the fault of the Tanzanian Government who at this point seem hell bent on shooting themselves in the foot. Ray and Pierr'e are the best at what they do IMHO, and I hope that their business survives this mess.

I'm sorry you had to cancell

I took my wife and 15 year old son and it was one of the best times of my life. I guess we got in right under the wire.

I hope you get another chance to take your family in the years to come.

I'm still going. I've gone ahead and sent the increase with the promise of a refund if not necessary to be used. The increases, along with the new trophy fees will be about a 15% increase. If I were hunting lion, leopard and elephant, I'd have been out of luck.

I hope to take all the animals on the ticket (2 buffalo, zebra, warthog, wildebeest, kongoni and impala... and I hope to win the lottery on Tuesday night.

I'm leaving JAX on Sept 11th and will be in camp two days before I begin to hunt observing somebody or something?... or just enjoying Moses' cooking.
