Has anyone found a Customs form 4457 with an expiration date of 2024 that SAPS is requiring? Time to update for Sept trip to Mozambique.

I understand that it just needs to be signed and dated by the CBP officer in 2024, but not that the form itself expires in 2024.

I thought they were going to take that expiration date off of there. In any event, I do recall talking to an officer last year and he said if I was taking a rifle that already had a form, I could just bring in the old form and have a new one issued without bringing the rifle. Too bad they won't do the whole thing electronically.

I see this 4457 subject fairly often, my 4457 does not have an expiration date in upper right hand corner, customs officer dated it in 2014 and I went through JNB without a hitch last May.
What am I missing?

Guys,

I've had at least five CBP officers tell me something different concerning the 4457. I just tell my clients to get a new 4457 each time they travel internationally with guns. That way there is no room for any CBP officer to use their personal interpretation of anything associated with the 4457.
Additionally there is no reason to have any 4457 issues in JNB if you have a new 4457.

The newest version has had the printed exp. date removed.
