Steve, You might want to contact TRAVEL GUARD www.sportsmanstravelinsurance.com 1-866-877-3241. Also check with your present homeowners and medical insurance providers to see what they cover. Your CC may also provide some additional coverage. Mark MARK H. You insure against losses that you cannot afford to absorb. If you have to cancel your trip, can you afford to lose whatever deposit you have made, or can your deposit be applied to a future trip? What kind of recovery or future use can you make of your prepaid airline tickets? If your guns or other valuables are lost by the airline, how much more are they worth than your potential compensation by the airline, and can you absorb that hit without it being a financial setback that damages your financial security? What kind of health insurance do you have, and what, if anything, will it pay for emergency treatment abroad? Where are you going, and what are the costs and availability of health care? You need to answer all of these questions before shopping for or purchasing any insurance. In my case, I determined in respect to the deposit, airfare, and guns, that the potential losses were not large enough to cripple me financially, so there was no point in insuring. In regard to health emergencies (heart attack, cobra bite, car wreck), the total costs of health services in most foreign venues is about the same as the deductible alone costs you if you are "fully insured" in the U.S., so there's really no point in being more fully insured for the two weeks when you are abroad than for the 50 weeks you are at home.

Make sure your health insurance covers you abroad. If not, get a short term travel policy. Evac insurance is a must. Guns should be insured, make sure it covers you abroad. Trip insurance, depends on a lot of stuff. How much can you afford to lose? Hunting: Exercising dominion over creation at 2800 fps.

First see Insure My Trip ! Then check both the SCI [Safari Club] and NRA web sites. [Get memberships! They are cheap for what you get!] You will also want to visit the MedJet and Global Rescue web sites. If you are using one of the specialty travel agents for your trip they will have advice, access and contacts for as well. Much of this depends on where you are going and how much money you have at risk. Good Hunting! Les

SCI offers very reasonable firearms/optics insurance to members. Their insurer will also insure trigger jobs, mounts & rings, etc.
